Breaking Free

Overnight, Henry tried out pajamas and a sleep sack for the first time.

Obviously, excitement was in the air...would the doctors and NPs give the discharge order during rounds? Would we be going home today?

They would.

We would.

An infant CPR refresher, a 'bed bath,' and a successful nursing session later, and it was time to bust out of that hospital room.

Despite all appearances to the contrary in the photo above, we did not have to kidnap him.

(Being able to pick him up and carry him without lines and monitors and cords was very strange at first, but freeing.)

He had passed his car seat test yesterday (practice for being in the car on the long drive back to La Crosse) so he was already used to being tucked in.
We did make a stop back at our rental so we could eat lunch and finish packing.

AND so that Henry could have two very needed diaper changes, the longest feed (a veritable FEAST) perhaps of his life so far, and another costume change (the result of those previously mentioned diaper changes).
Having kids means never going anywhere quickly, right?

Now, we are on our way home. Something we could never have imagined happening so quickly, even four days ago.

And although Mama definitely stress cried multiple times in the recent 24 hours, we all know it will be good to be home.

Bonus points to anyone who started humming the tune from High School Musical when you read the title of this post. You were probably also a 5th grade teacher in 2007.
